i'm sorry but in aberdeen it pisses it down 364 days of the year. the busses are full of pikeys and cyclists are all twunts ( if you are on the road,follow the rules like everyone else.)

in my car (sadly not a Honda Accord) i have warmth, my own music and i can leave when i like to arrive when i want to. it's not much more expensive than public transport.
as for the environment? fuck it, i work in the oil industry and i'm proud of my planet-raping job.

Got to disagree
...at least with the "follow the rules" comment.

Every time I have been told to "follow the rules" or similar when cycling it has been by someone with no comprehension of what the rules actually are. I've been told I "must" use the cycle lane (even when there isn't one present) that I "must" cycle on the footpath (the clue is in the name there). I've been lambasted for running red lights - even though I've never done that in my life - and for not wearing a helmet. The humour in the last one is that I was wearing a helmet at the time.

And for what its worth, I don't 'hate' cars. I can't see the mass attraction to them. I don't see them being anything more special that any other form of transport - if they get you there quicker/cheaper/more conveniently then all the power to you, but a lot of the time that isn't the case. In yours, and in Aberdeen it might be.

There are stupid people everywhere on the roads and they're not restricted in their choice of transportation.

As for following the rules as a cyclist, well this is sometimes downright dangerous: "Shall I stay here in the cycle bay so that I can turn left and have a 50/50 chance of being crushed to death by this lorry, or shall I stay alive and run the light as I can see there's nothing coming...hmmmm"

And if the car drivers want us to follow the rules as if we were cars, then they should give us space as if we were cars. No more overtaking in junctions when I'm going straight and you come from my right to turn left. No more crossing in front of me to go out of a roundabout. No more overtaking when there is obviously not space to do it safely. FFS!! You're losing 2 seconds in your journey and putting my life at risk!
