Onemunki says: We live in a world of genuine tragedy, starvation and terror. So, after hearing stories of cruise line passengers complaining at the air conditioning breaking down, what stories of sheer single-minded self-pity get your goat?

Who kick off because their parents haven't bought them the right kind of expensive gift. "Oh my god I wanted a GREEN car, not BLUE! YOU'VE RUINED EVERYTHING! I HATE YOU!"
Never mind that mum and dad went without a holiday to pay for the car, or that there are children out there in such poverty that the only time they'd ever get to sit in a car was if they were being arrested. No, Whiney McBitchface Jr doesn't like the colour, and that's all that matters.
This is a good example of the sort of shit that really winds me up. "Waaah! I didn't get an iphone! Christmas is ruined!" Grow up.

What really grinds my biscuit is the assumption that you will have a holiday, every year. Fuckers.

The point I was trying to make was that the parents have gone without in order to afford the kid's gift, only to be screamed at because it isn't quite right.

Blame the parents for letting the children get away with that attitude. A clip round the ear or two would sort stuff like this.

parents should be more willing to put their foot down and say no, although sometimes I suspect it's too tempting to just take the easy way out and just give them what they want so they'll stop wailing at you.
On the other hand, I do feel that by the time you reach your late teens, you ought to have grown up enough to be grateful for what you're given, rather than being a materialistic, screeching little shit all the time.

They expect their parent to get them something just cos they're in a shop. And they start shouting and stuff if what they've picked "isn't as good" as what their sibling is getting
