Modern Life
Modern life is Rubbish, suggested Damian Allbran of Pulp
He might have had a point. What was better about the good old days, or conversely do you believe the modern world to be the zenith of civilisation?

Reality TV
*unlurks*
Yesterday I heard the theme from the TV show Fame (it was big in the 80s, kids). I remembered the bit at the start where the teacher said, "You want fame? Well fame costs, and right here is where you start paying". Sadly, it's not like that any more. People used to need talent to get on TV. Now any dickhead can get on Big Brother (I'm sure other reality shows are available, but I don't care).
Moan over.

I think it's all about popular empowerment.
Back in the day, you used to watch TV and say "Wow! Look at that person's skills/talent/dedication to their art", etc. It made you feel small and not a little lazy, but it was an uplifting display of what you could do if you put your mind to it. Then some bloobloos had a fit of inferiority because they didn't like being made to look bad, which gave rise to a generation of people who watch reality TV and say "I might have spent all weekend playing GTA V in my underpants and getting wasted, but at least I'm not that fucking chav wanker."

I knew once moved into a rented property, one of the existing tenants was called Leroy. He couldn't resist wondering if he was paying his rent in sweat...
