Can anyone confirmthe veracity of this story told to me by a friend's mum:
She worked at one point for Hounslow Council, and they once wanted to change the name of the borough from Hounslow to Hounsfast...

Nearly right...I heard it was suggested they change it to:
Hounsmoderate-speed-not-too-fast-not-too-slow-making-way-for-pedestrians-and-people-of-all-races-colours-creeds-sexual-orientation-and-bodily-abilities-except-gingers
but apparently that offended people who are sensitive to stupidly long place names.
