Not sure how much this occurs across the country...
At the university I attend there exists a post called the 'Women's Officer' whose job is to ensure the midnight 'safety bus' (a free taxi service for the assorted drunken double X 'delights') and that's it as far as I can see (apart from putting forward the needs of the lasses at whatever utterly pointless meeting the utterly pointless student council declares, i would imagine). Even if the post wasn't completely and utterly pointless, the sheer sexism of it just grates significantly. Because I'm a male I'm not an easy target (not just for rape mind) when inebriated to certain degrees? What makes their existences worth protecting more than mine?

I'm not too bitter, but I'm not sorry to be finishing this year.

Am I missing any apostrophes?

Ours was pretty nice...
She campaigned successfully for improved lighting in some of the gloomier and scarier parts of campus to make both men and women feel a bit safer when rolling home from the SU. She was also generally very nice and pragmatic, remembering that most common sense things she was doing for women would extend to men as well. E.g. the night bus was open for men but women got first dibs. Fair enough.


Having said that, it should really just be welfare officer and remit should include men as well. We can be vulnerable too, especially at undergraduate age.

As a young man, you are in the group that is most likely to be violently attacked by far. From my own (ex) career as a drunken young man I would give one piece of advice - take taxis. Almost every casualty visit starts with a 'I was so twatted. On the walk home (5 mins) this lad yelled at me and asked for a light etc etc etc' - repeat until sutured
