RIPI met Benoit Mandelbrot in 1990. I went to a lecture he gave and took along a print-out of his eponymous set. It was a pretty crude dot-matrix job (a screendump of MODE 2 on a BBC Micro, eighties spods) so I apologised for the quality of the rendering. 'That's all right,' he said, 'it looks much better than the first time I saw it.' RIP.
