Chiefly for this reason: why, as a reporter, go to the trouble of committing a crime just for the sake of a story, which'll be everywhere the following day anyway?
There is no good reason, unless you're writhing in a snakepit of competition, being put under pressure by an editor to get exclusives at any cost.
