I've been a bit bemused seeing all of these and the reactions to them.
I totally get that it must be very sad if you work there, but I don't really know why everyone else is so upset. They were fucking horrible stores, weren't they?

I guess it's the same as if Clarence House burned down with all the Royals inside
and at the same time the Duchy Estates were split up and turned into independent farms rather than a money-making exercise for a big-eared chinless twat with an unconstitutional interest in wagging his massive dick around and pressuring government ministers.
No, wait, that would be a good thing!
Edit: this bizarrely off-topic rant brought to you by people who are sleeping three hours a night :D

horrible is a bit strong
but what do i know, must be ten years since i visited one. saying that, i preferred the independent record stores, as the staff were usually more knowledgeable and sold a wider range of ... different stuff.
edit: there used to be a tiny record shop in here, but the name of it escapes me

I guess my opinion is based on the Walthamstow branch
and the one on Oxford Street (or maybe it was Tottenham Court Road?).

HMV was for when you needed to buy music for uncool elders.
HMV reminded me of giving a Stevie Wonder album to my Mum for her birthday and it reminds me of playing Isaac Hayes' Shaft through Dad's big new speakers when I bought it him for Christmas.

Issac Hayes had an album called 'Shaft through Dad'?
unfortunate but unavoidable placement of apostrophes

I think most of us are simply old enough to remember when they were great
it's 20 years ago, but it's still a fond memory of finding music in an environment that wasn't a creepy backstreet shop run by an ex mobile disco man that swears he knows the Rolling Stones.
