The tea represents the eternal chaos surrounding us, often opaque and uncomfortable
The mug represents our world view. Some people have but tiny espresso cups while others swim within giant 1-litre novelty mugs. We can never see the 'big picture' (as represented by the rim of the mug) unless the chaos (tea) gets too much and overflows - then we get thrown (spilt on the table) into new and unfamiliar territory. The rodent is us, constantly swimming, trying to stay afloat within the chaos while waiting for the biscuit that never arrives.
