Man 1 enters pub.
Man 1: 'Sorry I'm late, I was stuck in traffic and don't carry a mobile phone because I think they're rude.'
Man 2: 'Not half as rude as leaving me standing around waiting for your Luddite arse to show up.'
Man 2 exits pub. Curtain.

Now I *do* have a mobile and all that
but most people can cope perfectly well with someone arriving late.
