my ipod won't wake up.
I charged it last night and it refuses to start... I only hope that i managed to not plug it in and the batteries are just flat.

I'm on my 3rd.
It's always been the firewire port that dies. Will get a new one when we buy the new Mac.

Reboot it.
Mine gets stuck sometimes. Press and hold 'menu' and 'play' until it restarts.

if this doesn't work then it is deadpod
1) reset it (play+menu)
2) when apple logo comes up press rrw,ffw and middle button (ie all buttons across the middle) for 5 secs and this brings you to the debug menu...the scroll wheel won't work here so to advance/back you need to use ffwd/rwd
the 5 in 1 test will test all problems
