where in the country you are. Seems to be left ear up north, right ear down south. Some parts of the world it's both ears and in bits of california it apparently doesn't matter as long as it's a silver post.
Some sources seem to say top of the ear is "dominant" lobe is "submissive"
Do I know far too much about this? Probably.
