apparently it's common in america to say 'jigawatts', but it is actually gigawatts, they just can't pronounce things properly, surprisingly

yeah..
its crap, they say Jigawatts in the film, i have yet to meet a Britain or American who pronounces Gigawatts that way... the clue is in the film "what the hell is a Jigawatt?" its a made up unit, the fact martie picks up on that is part of the humour of BTTF!!!
