There's rather a lot of research suggesting that homosexuality can actually benefit the transmission of genes in several species of animals. I don't have the references to hand, but the argument goes like this: where a male is unable, for whatever reason, to pass on his own genes, by removing himself from the direct competition by being gay, and providing support to his siblings rather than wasting energy fighting over mates, copies of his genes are passed on (via brothers and sisters) where they othewise may not have been. So genetically being gay isn't necessarily wrong.
