This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

mouthbreathers
those slack jawed types and their nasty habits drive me up the wall, too.

But what I've found is that it's not always a "working class"
thing. I know well off, well educated people from good families who are perfectly capable of eating a meal at home properly but put a piece of chewing gum in their mouth and their jaw completely fails to work.

Yup.
A chap who sits near me at work is a public-school-light-aircraft-pilot-type who still can't help masticating loudly.
Plus you can hear him wanking in the toilets.

Sandwich man
I used to work with a guy who seemed determined to get his mouth open as wide as possible when he was chewing.

The weird thing was he always held his sandwich down at desk level and lowered his entire upper body down to take a bite. Fully functioning arms etc, just a muppet.
