All very well being happy now, but you should seriously think of the long term implications, what if he developed some sort of degenerative illness and you lost a large proportion of your life looking after an old man who might not even recognise you, wouldn't feel so great about it then I guess. Maybe your mum, who has been through exactly the same experience as you is simply looking out for you, don't think that your relationship is 'special' because everyone thinks that and the harsh reality is that it isn't.

though the age-gap is similar, the situations are very different.

As far as I am aware there is no history of any such illness in his family, and none in mine either. My man is not yet 40, I don't expect him to become decrepit any time soon.

Not that it is particularly relevant, but my parent's marriage broke down because I don't believe they fancied eachother in the first place. They just wanted to make babies. They did that and if I do say so myself, they did a pretty good job of it. My Dad, though he is approaching 71 is in better health than most 50 year olds, beats my 22 year old brother at squash and plays badminton twice a week, could walk forty miles in a day and drink most men half his age under the table with a smile on his face, then get up to teach a teenager to jive.

My man is fit and healthy and sharp of wit, we fancy eachother something terrible and will take each day as it comes.

It sounds like you have been hurt, I do hope you don't speak from experience.
