ContrarilyI've seen customers give a £20, then the employee give them change for a ten, and take ten out of the till for themselves. Thus when the till is counted, it appears to be correct, and the customer appears to be wrong.
I tend to say "here's a twenty" or whatever to try and avoid incedents like this.
