It's OK, you can console yourself......with the simple and inevitable fact that their enthusiasm will be crushed under the weight of the tedium of daily existence while their optimism will be chipped away inexorably by the steady encroaching of the depressing truths you describe, until they are either numbed into the sort of mindless drone that our society needs in order to grind on, or they kill themselves.
