Strangely..
When I was a child I loved listening to my dad's records, that is, until the needle broke :(
I did find a limited means around this somewhat; I found (I really can't remember how) that if you chewed a fingernail so that you had most of it hanging off, then put the nail down into the groove on the record while it was spinning you could hear the music vibrating through your nail.
