This is a question Heroes and villains of 2011

Who were your heroes or villains of the last year, and why? Who inspired you? Who had you kicking the cat across the room? They don't have to be well known, you might even want to laud the achievements of your binman. (Note that "Nick Clegg nuff said" answers puts you straight onto our naughty list)

Without being too "Daily Mail"
I would say hero of the year (excluding all the people we don't know of who work tirelessly looking after others, in any capacity) would be the "Big Man" who kicked that scrote off the train in Scotland. Simply because places like trains, buses, cinemas, concerts etc are all too often full of wankers who don't know the basic concepts of correct social behaviour, which is designed (in most part) to encourage understanding and consideration for others. If we all grew a pair there would be no more chavs playing shitty music out of their phones for us all to hear, wankers talking during concerts or films, etc etc.

Villains: All the apologists for the unrest going on in Syria at the moment; the President and politicians who dismiss the talk of 5,000 civilian casualties as somehow acceptable. Ordering your troops to fire on or torture your citizens - I hope they get theirs, and then some, in 2012.

So you reckon...
... the "hero of the year" was a fat chav bully who kicked a skinny wee student half his size off a train and left him stranded in the arse end of nowhere without his wallet?

I'm tempted to go and find this "Big Man" and let him try picking on someone his own size, detestable fat prick that he is.

Mm. I agree.
The Big Man was as much of a prick as the guy he threw off.

Then again, it fits in with my world view that "Everyone's a prick. Even if they're not"

Err actually
the guy works in finance, which might make him a few things, but a chav it does not. Also, the guy was not kicked off without his wallet, and the filming of the incident started after the student had been swearing at the conductor for 10 minutes. Still, I suppose you'd support his right to act the prick in public, swearing in front of children at an old(ish) conductor trying to do his job, more than support someone who with minimum force and fuss tried to resolve the situation and stop the whole train being delayed.

So cos he's a 'skinny wee student'
he should be allowed to act in whatever manner he likes, no matter how many people he pisses off or upsets? Is this because it's his human right?
(, Thu 29 Dec 2011, 23:09, closed)
No...
I don't think he should be allowed to act in whatever manner he likes. Neither do I think the worthless fat chav that threw him off the train and punched him ought to be allowed to act in whatever manner he likes.

He committed common assault. I hope he gets jailed for it. That would be one less scumbag walking around.

Clearly
you haven't watched the clip. Not once did he punch the lad. He picked him up, walked him forcibly to the door and wouldn't let him back on. He got a standing ovation from everyone on the train and rightly so.

Why should every other paying passenger be delayed because one little shit wouldn't pay his fare? Why should a conductor be continuously insulted just for doing his job? Why should small children be forced to listen to his vulgar language? What ever happened to the concept of the greater good and the needs of the masses over the individual?

If he had 'lost' his wallet, why didn't he just talk to the rail staff before boarding the fucking train? They are usually very helpful in this way and will arrange for a ticket so long as you provide some personal information (home address etc). All this liberal 'everyone is equal' bollocks really winds me up. You get what you deserve in this life. I firmly believe that if you act like a cunt, you should be treated like such.

Exactly my point
The physical sizes of the "big man" and the lad are nothing to do with this. If you did research, you'd find that the person who filmed the clip was thinking of paying the lad's fare, but decided not to simply because the guy was being an arsehole, hoping to intimidate the conductor and acting like the spoilt brat he obviously is. We're not talking about some poor victim of society - he's a "student" who had an iPad in his bag, who'd been out drinking.
What makes it worse is that after the event, a series of bullshit excuses for his behaviour were trotted out by him and his family - the "I was sold the wrong ticket" nonsense (disproved); "I am diabetic" (in which case, don't drink, cunt) and "I was trying to explain" (no, you were being stroppy and swearing in front of kids).
If the "big man" hadn't have taken that action, and the train didn't go anywhere on a Friday night before Christmas when half the carriage were probably pissed, he'd have doubtless been lamped by someone before too long.
I don't know if you're trolling or if you genuinely believe that the scrote had some sort of pass to behave like a cunt. If you do, I pity those around you - you've got some problems with your view of what a society is, how it works and what our obligations are to behave like civilised people.

Clearly...
... you haven't seen the CCTV footage from the platform where he punches the guy as he tries to get back on.

He's a violent chav thug. He should be in prison.

It's utterly frustrating that there's a country there in the middle of a civil war
The Libyans got themselves a rebel army and NATO help, and seemingly relatively few civilians were hurt during that. While the Syrians HAVEN'T raised a rebel army and are getting slaughtered.

What have we done? Pulled an oil company out of Syria? whoop de fucking do.

I'm not saying a full on invasion is right, but damnit, sanctions aren't working, and they're still trading with neighbours.
(, Thu 29 Dec 2011, 18:28, closed)
Great idea.
Let's wage yet another expensive, illegal war without point, purpose or ending. God only knows the austerity measures aren't spartan enough as they are.
(, Thu 29 Dec 2011, 21:02, closed)
I said I'm not calling for an invasion
but pressure to be put on their neighbours to do something about it.

oh, and NOT Israel, they'll just fuck everything up. Arab League members.

How about we just pay for the big guy from the train to go there
and chuck out the bad guys?

There was an excellent analysis of the situation
from Patrick Cockburn in the Indy a couple of weeks ago. Optimistic it ain't.
