Lies that went on too long
When you lie you often have to keep lying. Share your pain. When I was 15 I pretended to be 16 to help get a summer job. Then had to spend a summer with this nice shopkeeper asking me everyday if I was excited about getting my GCSE results. I felt like an utter shit. Thanks to MerseyMal for the suggestion.

As the wife of a veteran with ptsd
I'm not convinced you aren't masking ptsd with self-medication.
Given the h3ll that is genuine ptsd, for the veteran, family, and friends, I hope for your sake that you really don't have it and that it was a lie.
Do find yourself a copy of Patience Mason's book, "Recovering from the War," and if you recognize yourself in it, get help. And thank you, sir, for your service.

We work on it daily, thank you
It did take a long time to get past denial. I see some familiar landmarks in the OP. I hope it is a case of buying a new car and suddenly seeing ones like it everywhere.

Thanks, pills are an option only if I can take them.
Nothing like watching Mr. Kila go absolutely batshite crazy at even the hint of meds. Anxiety disorder and panic disorder. Yay. Don't think I haven't seriously considered grinding them up and feeding them to him without telling him!
And btw, a legitimate use for ecstasy... Hmmm...! I like!
