SMOKING
It just drives me mental. I work with many, most of them I get on well with. I can't stand the smell, not just the smoke, I can smell them when they walk past me, and they throw butts everywhere. I work in an industry that requires various levels of inspection and check on work done. I spend a considerable portion of my working day trying to get inspections completed and work signed off in between their "smoke breaks", yet if non-smokers tack 5 minutes onto their lunch we cop a right bollocking for it. I have never met a smoker that always uses a bin or ashtray. I especially hate it when they flick them out the window of their car, this could have something to do with being behind them on a motorbike, or the fact that is oftem hot and dry where I live and bushfires are common. These are the same fuckwits that donate to bushfire appeals yet, start fires through their own filthy habit. I can't stand that everywhere I go, is littered with butts, the streets,especially around traffic lights, doorways of government buildings and pubs. You can pick a smoker driving, because the drive really gingerly and often all over the place, until they flick the butt out the window, and then they're off. I know the smokers out are going say "but I don't do that", bullshit, that's what they all say, you just can't see yourself (or smell yourself for that matter).

Secondly, as a smoker who doesn't actually tack 5 minutes onto lunch breaks, or slope off whenever I want, I take issue with practically everything you say. I don't smoke when I drive. Secondly, I use a bin to put butts in.

if you actually didnt do those things,but I've never met one who will admit doing it, even if they were in the middle of doing it.Pretty much the point of my little rant really. They all say that their addiction does not affect me, so I should just shut the fuck up, but the fact that I am forced to put up with the stench, the litter that they leave, and carry their load while they get another hit, or put up with a tosser getting violent because he/she cant get a hit, really fucks me off. Why should I have to tolerate their addiction and the impact it has on me? If it were just killing you quietly with no impact on me, honestly, I would not give a flying fuck.

I have never said
that I am any better, just that breathing the foul stench that causes me headaches, the resultant litter of smokers and my experiences with smokers, pisses me off, because of this I prejudge smokers/smoking to be filthy, lazy and bordering on violent should their addiction be questioned.

The point is...
If someone chooses to smoke, then that's their business - and I don't have a problem with it per se. It's nothing to do with me, what substance someone chooses to put into their bodies.

However, it crosses the line when their addiction negatively affects me. If I'm walking behind a smoker on the pavement, then I have to hold my breath and cross the road. It smells fucking disgusting.

Agree about the driving thing
Pisses me right off when I'm stuck behind a wanker dawdling along at a speed which I associate with kerb-crawling - when there's a clear straight road in front of them, with no hazards and no reason to crawl.

Then I realise that the reason they're crawling is because they're fucking smoking at the wheel, and therefore it's necessary for them to crawl for safety's sake, because their attention is being diverted from the task of driving.

Wouldn't the smokers and their detritus in doorways, plus the fact that they take fag breaks at work be a result of the unnecessarily draconian smoking bans introduced by most states? It certainly seems that way in the UK.
