This is a question Spoilt Brats

Mr Newton sighs, "ever known anyone so spoilt you would love to strangle? I lived with a Paris Hilton-a-like who complained about everything, stomped her feet and whinged till she got her way. There was a happy ending though: she had to drop out of uni due to becoming pregnant after a one night stand..."

Who's the spoiltest person you've met? Has karma come to bite them yet? Or did you in fact end up strangling them? Uncle B3ta (and the serious crimes squad) wants to know.

He's got a point,
Even if it is verging on a slightly rose-tinted "good-old-days" version of things.

The valid point is that, yes, the Range Rover is unnecessary. And throwing things away just because they're a bit tatty - we are incredibly wasteful, and that does get my back up. I don't quite know why, but I do get quite tetchy when I see people throwing away perfectly good food simply because it's 5 minutes past its best-before-date*.

I'm not trying to sound sanctimonious...nor am I trying to say we're spoiled... I just think we could try not to throw so much stuff away.

*And yes, I am well aware of the need for these things on, e.g., raw meat, seafood, etc., but that block of cheese or that pre-prepared curry is hardly going to sprout salmonella overnight, is it?

.
Yes! At the stroke of midnight as it waves a sad cheerio to it's use-by date.

... Dong.... Dong... Dong... "That's it, I'm off."

Blimey.

How do you know
the Range Rover is unecessary? Okay, so 80% of them probably are. But, for example, a guy at work has a Range Rover. Always totally clarted in mud. Wrecked his wife's Fiesta within weeks of moving to wherever he lives. So he clearly needs a 4x4, and could afford the 'rover without any serious effort on his wallet's part.

Bigger cars are also good for longer journeys- you try doing a 500 mile trip in a Fiesta and then do the homeward-bound trip in a BMW 5-series. Which is more suited for the task?

And "if you can't carry it home you don't need it"? You ever tried walking 3 miles home from the nearest Tesco carrying a microwave? Or gas oven? Or even a 24-pack of beer (seriously, it's necessary some times)?

Using the third world as a guide to what you "need" or "don't need" is a mistake- they don't have everything they need. Hence the death, war and so on.
