While I agree with your overall point...
The fact remains that (normally) every generation has it better than the last simply because the work of the generation before has been to improve the quality of life for the next.
"People these days are spoiled and they don't know the half of it." - and the people before them would think "fuck me, look how long they're living!" and so on and so forth.
But yes, people in 4x4s should by and large fuck the fuck off.
But what has that got to do with social cohesion? We're spoiled because we don't necessarily want to talk to randoms on the street.
