WellIt's possibly because you're over qualified - if you can tell them how to read a date of birth, you should clearly be applying for a supervisor position, or explaining in the interview or initial application that you've got a lobotomy planned within a month of the start date if you get the job....
If it makes you feel better, I suspect many of us here have been deemed unworthy by the big supermarkets ;)
