Waste of money
I once paid a small fortune to a solicitor in a legal case. She got lost on the way to court, turned up late with the wrong papers and started an argument with the judge, who told her to "shut up, for the love of God". A stunning investment.
Thanks to golddust for the suggestion

Gift wrapping paper
All my life I've been dutifully wrapping gifts for friends and relatives in store bought wrapping paper, and attaching a store bought card.
A couple of years ago I thought, "WTF?" I pay a ridiculous amount of money for a piece of tatt that's going to be ripped off and thrown away (or recycled by some of my relies). NO sod it, from then on I've wrapped gifts in additional gifts. Mostly tea towels and their ilk. They cost LESS than wrapping paper and are useful. And cards, forget it, I don't even send Xmas cards these days.

Christmas cards can fuck right off.
The Mrs insists on sending them, even to family members! WTF is that all about? Is a present not enough!!
Try one year not sending any cards out to anyone, then see how many cards you get next year! It's the usual..you sent me one, so I'd best send you one, money wasting bollocks.

Sometimes if I get smaller cards, I use the front of them as gift tags
but I resent having to send cards in the first place

My wife and I
came up with a christmas alternative to wrapping. We made large calico sacks, with the kids names on them (We had 6 kids in house at the time, shitloads to wrap), and every year we would get them to put a new handprint and message on them, the one child that remains has had hers for 6 years now.

It worries me that there's only one left...
...and do you have a large, recently concreted patio?

No
Just some very satisfied turkish businessmen.
Truthfully, some were foster kids, who have now moved on and my other kids are older and no longer live here.

I've been using a £2 roll of brown paper
to wrap presents for about six years now.
If I'm being really fancy, I use some string too. It looks ace!
