» Irrational Fears

Buttons, coathangers, sweetwrappers, circles
At uni I shared a house with a guy who was was scared of:
a) Buttons (Seriously, all his clothes had Velcro, zips or ties)* **
b) Coathangers

His girlfriend was scared of :
a) Sweet wrappers
b) Circles (WTF caused that, I have no idea.)

* Many years later he came to stay and my then flatmate had a huge jar of buttons on a shelf in the living room. In the morning we woke to find that he had found a paper bag and put it over the top so he could get to sleep.

** Also he used to pinch my records and leave the lieing about in his room out of their sleaves. I simply stuck a button on the wall with Blu-Tac next to my record collection. He never "borrowed" another record.

Spooky
An episode of Spooks was filmed in our house before we lived here, but screened once we owned the place. Here's a screen grab. Our house is the one on the left. We took the stone cladding off this summer, but still have one piece in the garden as a memento. We also have the nasty red curtains that feature in the episode in the interior shots and use them on the floor when we are decorating. If anyone has Spooks Series 2 on DVD and can rip just Episode 2 to 3ivx or whatever, we'd love a copy. Email me at [email protected]. Cheers.

Postcodes and nightbuses
Once I had a few too many drinks and needed to get home from a party at someone's flat. I staggered outside and wandered around looking for a bus stop. I found one and after about half an hour along comes a bus called N19. I then lived in Archway (postcode N19). "Brilliant! It's going my way", I think in my pissed state and hop on board. Let's just say that the London nightbus system and the postcode system do not work together in this way. It was not a quick journey home and involved an expensive cab ride after arising from a stupor and finding the bus at Hyde Park Corner.
Oddly enough, if I had gone in the other direction I could have walked home from the end of the line - Finsbury Park. There's no justice in this world for drunkards.

» How I Skive Off Work

Yawn.
While working in the library of a London university I frequently used to:

a) Find a nice quiet desk in a corner - you know the ones with screens all around - lay my head down and have a snooze for a few hours. No one would disturb you because they assumed you were a student.

b) One of my jobs was to return periodicals to the overflow shelves in a room miles away and in another department. I would take the only key, lock myself in, select a appropriately sized book to use as a pillow and catch forty winks.

I might go and have a lie down now.
