» Call Centres

I've got a couple ...
I worked in a call centre a few years ago, but never stayed long enough to get torrents of abuse or weirdos phoning me. (I left just after completed my training - had a better job offer.)

I have had a couple of incidents with call centres in the past year that have given me reason to rant.

1) It was December last year and my Dad had just passed away. It was quite sudden and, as you can imagine, we were all in a state of shock. Imagine my absolute horror and disgust when my Mum received a phone from some Indian guy from an unknown ambulance chaser company who began with the line "Hello, we heard your husband was recently in an accident and is in hospital. Would you like to claim compensation for him?" WTF?!!!

Firstly, my Dad died from complications from stomach surgery and a stroke. Secondly, how the FUCK did they find out that my Dad was in a hospital? Or do they start all calls with that line?! My Mum was so upset that she went into shock and just put the phone down. Never did find out who those wankers were.

2) Somehow a money company who I had never heard of managed to get a hold of my personal details and wanted to give me a loan, even though I didn't want one. The first time they phoned, I explained to them that I did not need a loan and that I wanted my details removing from their system. I got put through to another department, only to have some guy try to force me to buy income insurance using scare tactics! Wankers!

They still keep calling, writing to me and texting me. I keep responding with FUCK OFF! Hasn't worked. :(

» Family Feuds

I haven't spoken to my paternal Gran for nearly 10 years
She lives in Norwich and every summer we would go down and visit her for a couple of weeks. I hated this because the entire time she would criticise, moan and generally act as if she had been put upon by her only son and his family, even though she had invited us down to visit.

When she occasionally visited at Christmas, it was a nightmare and always managed to put my Mam on edge. Thankfully, after causing lots of drama and generaly being a selfish, unpleasant, sack of wrinkly shit one year, my Dad told her that she was no longer welcome to stay with the family. She didn't take that too well to say the least, but still spoke to my Dad.

The real icing on the cake which made me completely cut contact with her was when she insulted me over my upcoming wedding. She called me a waste of space and insisted that the marriage was a joke. Obviously she was not invited as a result.

She tried to get back in touch earlier this year after my Dad suddenly passed away. I made it perfectly clear that I didn't want to know.

Horrible woman.

Work place antics
I lock my boss in the storage cupboard or the office. He does not like that.

My boss likes firing an air-zooka at my head when I'm working. I do not like that.

My working day consists of general one upmanship.

I'm a LRPer ...
That's Live Action Role Player to those who are unfamiliar with the term.

Several times a year, my OH and I pack up our steel chariot with tents, latex weapons, replica armour and an insane amount of alcohol and head off to a field somewhere in the Midlands for a weekend. During this weekend, we take on alter-egos, cast spells and kill orcs. This all takes place whilst getting increasingly drunk. Good times!

Childish? A bit, but I don't give shit!

OK, here's mine ...
"Who Wants To Live Forever?" by Queen - First time I heard this, I cried. Mind you I was drunk and emotional in that way you get after several pints.

"I Write The Songs" made famous by Barry Manilow, performed by my Dad. We played this as the last song at my Dad's funeral. The old man was a musician in his time and had recorded a few tracks over the years. My bro and I managed to get a few tracks from tape to CD in time for the funeral. Can't listen to either version now without feeling a bit bubbly.

"I Love You Baby" performed by Brak, that weird space pirate kitty from Space Ghost. It will forever be the anthem of my best friend and I. During the days of drunkeness we called our early twenties, we'd skip down Newcastle's Northumberland Street, singing this as loud as we could.
