Thing is, right. I can't stand the pantomime macabre about slipknot.
but on an individual basis, if you don't listen to lyrics like I don't some of the racket is prang-on in a kind of mindless oblivion headbang mosh way. Also their drummer is considered to be one of the best (technical prowess if not subtlety of expression) by other drummers -make of that what you will- but I have one track by them on my phone. Mind you I also have 2 albums by The Buggles so....

You're also entitled to like whatever band/soft drink/brand of guitar strings that Kerrang magazine/TV tells you to like- I really don't mind.
I'm personally very relieved that I grew out of an awkward, 'pretending to appreciate metal because I thought it made me seem different and kept my parents out of my way' stage that EVERYONE goes through to some extent, in my early twenties- and developed the self-awareness to make my own decisions about music (and life). This is something that most people who've reached this stage in their life can relate to, and those who haven't, can't.
