3 simple step for cooking up something mind blowing.
Ingredients - ephedrine (or pseudoephedrine), iodine, ether, sodium hydroxide, red phosphorus, and hydrochloric acid.
Tools - plastic jars with lids, coffee filters, an eyedropper, a funnel, and a coffee pot.
1. Start by taking Sudafed (which has pseudoephedrine as its active ingredient) and crush it into a powder. The powder is then dissolved into the ether and then coffee filters are used to separate the liquid from a white sludgy material (which is thrown out). After being evaporated in a coffee pot, what remains is a pure form of pseudoephedrine, which is close to crystal meth by itself.
2. Your new solution will then be cooked for several hours with red phosphorus, iodine, and hydrochloric acid. After the mixture is cooled down, it is once again filtered and then made into a base using sodium hydroxide. Ether is used for a second time as a solvent, and after evaporating the ether, methamphetamine is left. All that is left now is making the methamphetamine into crystals, which is why it is called crystal meth.
3. Crystal meth is then created by bubbling hydrochloric acid gas into the container that has the methamphetamine inside. This material is then filtered for a last time, and the crystals collect on the filter itself. You know have crystal meth in your possession.

Crystal meth mixed with some unreacted iodine, ether, caustic soda, hydrochloric acid and any other shite that was in the pot.
Great stuff!

That's what the "making it into crystals" bit is for, surely?
I presume shezam meant recrystallisation by that, which would purify it nicely.

well I doubt
that unreacted caustic soda and hydrochloric acid would share the same space without a certain amount of obvious excitement in any case. Ether would evaporate. Don't know about the iodine. If you are smoking crystal meth you probably have more pressing problems anyway.

Do not do this
without a good deal more info or you will very possibly blow your fucking face off.

If UK based
you'll have a job getting hold of diethyl ether domestically and trying to knock up your own from ethanol and sulphuric acid is a whole nother route to the burns unit. Plus pure ethanol is also not available for home use. (Distilling it from surgical spirit could work but it's a lot of trouble)

Unfortunately, non-prescription Sudafed doesn't have pseudoephedrine in it any more. At least, not in the UK.
It's got something clinically indistinguishable from a placebo instead. Fucking joke.
It's the same with cough syrup -- it was Codeine Linctus, which worked dead well ... but ZOMG ITS GOT OPIATES IN IT, so now it's Pholcodeine Linctus, which does fuck all.

Prescription?
No, you can get *real* Sudafed without prescription but you do need to ask a pharmacist for it; it's not on the open shelves in the main area of Boots

also
The sudafed tablets now have an ooey-gooey binding agent in them so it's not a straightforward wash rinse and evaporate to get your pseudo ephedrine. You could always grow some ephedra grass and extract from that I guess.

no first hand experience
All the sites with guides say no. I guess the binder is also soluble so it slides through the filter and messes with the kitchen chemist by contaminating during evaporation.

Sudafed
Worth noting - there are 2 things marketed as Sudafed in the UK, and they're different.
The kind on the open shelves is Phenylephrine, which is pretty good as placebos go for your stuffed up nose, but probably no damned use for this.
The other kind is Pseudoephedrine, which for the very reason of this recipe, is kept behind the counter and you have to ask the pharmacist for. And they don't let you buy it in large quantities.
Finally, what not a lot of people know is that this family of stimulants is actually the basis for Ritalin. Yes, Ritalin is a stimulant. It controls the behaviour of ADHD patients by stimulating the areas of the brain used for conscious control of random urges (that voice that tells you "Hmmm - that would be A Bad Idea" and "Concentrating on what you're trying to get done might be handy"), which the rest of the population have operating reasonably well. So if you have difficulty focusing on getting shit finished, self-medication with Sudafed might not be an unreasonable response.
IANAD, YMMV, AYOR, This Is Not Advice etc

Apparently,* it's now so hard to get pseudephedrine
...that desperate, bunged-up people are buying crystal meth on the street and chemically recovering the pseudephedrine.
* Apparently, all sentences starting with "apparently" were heard in a pub and may not be entirely trustworthy.
