I really can't stand
the concept of just being famous, without actually having done something important. Here in Australia, sports people are labelled heroes, and for what? Heroes are people who have decided that something or someone is more important than their own safety or wellbeing, and acted accordingly.
Heroes are not people who can kick a leather ball, or use any manner of fancy sticks to propell said ball, as impressive as their skills may be they are not fucking heroes. Same goes for entertainers,you know , singers, dancers, actors and other such people. Sure they may be good entertainers, but not heroes. None of them is worth the worship they receive. I don't hate them, but I certainly feel that the sort of person who blindly worships these so called "heroes", is somewhat of a fuckwit.

That's my point
This guy's done something decent, and who's heard of him? Shane Warne likes a shag and it's front page and uproar about our "heroes" setting a bad example.
1. He plays with a little red ball- that's not heroic
2. He likes a shag & a bit of text fun ...that's completely normal.
3. There are people out there who actually believe he's (and others like him)a hero.

I just had another look at that list
It really is very scary, with the amount of sports people and entertainers who made australian of the year. Listing Steve Waugh as a "humanitarian" you have got to be kidding me.
People like Fred Hollows & Weary Dunlop though are real "heroes".

Totally agree
Hero is a seriously overused word, particularly on what passes for news in Australia. The obsession with sportsmen (and it is almost exclusively men) is pathetic. I'd heard of Ben bloody Cousins on the news dozens of times before I realised that the reason people were so interested in this arrogant, spoiled, druggy wee nyaff was that he happened to be pretty good at kicking a ball around. I now rarely watch the news or read the papers, if I do I make sure it's from some advert free source so they're less likely to be pandering to some advertiser's whim.
