Lets face it
Festivals are what middle class people do to pretend to be interesting. "Oh, look at me - I've just spent a hundred pounds on a festival ticket! Step away from the tapas, wine, avacado and goats cheese and come and give me praise! To show how much of an individual I am I'm going to spend the equivalent money that will keep a family on the breadline alive for a month to go and stand round with thousands and thousands of other individuals. We can talk about where we're going ski-ing next season and how the country would be much better if we just got rid of poor people."

Hardly middle class
But an interesting point, makes a change from the usual "ZOMG I was soooooooooo drunk" stories, but you do sound like a bit of a sanctimonious prick.

What do regular people do for fun then?
If drinking in a field listening to music isn't 'working class' enough?

In line with the other posts
If you can afford an existence above handjobs for a living and baked beans to live, it doesn't automatically make you middle class.
Besides which, how many of these people you talk about decide that they'll throw off the shackles of the corporate machine and go trip out on acid for 3 days? None. They're the ones there for James Blunt, sleeping in a caravan.

If that's your experience of festivals then frankly you've been going to the wrong ones.

What kind of festival have you been to?
a) So the fuck what about cost? They can be bloody expensive to run, particularly the smaller ones that have many of the legal obligations of the big ones and less income. Don't like it? Don't go.
Of course, that's if you're doing it legally..
b) Even at festival type things I've been to where middle class people were fairly prominent, ski-ing was hardly a topic of conversation. Everyone is usually talking about the music or whatever other common theme brings you together.
Even if you do find a group of idiots (and thieving scum are, of course, so much better than middle class wankers), move on and find someone nicer. That's the joy of having lots of nice people to talk to.
